PRANAYAMA
The Yoga Temple

Deep meditation and relaxation is the end result of pranayama practice.

Pranayama is the practice of breath control. It calms and strengthens the mind and creates a feeling of peace.

Prana is air, breath, life force - ayama  is expansion, volume. Thus, the systematic control of the inhalation and exhalation and the pause in between is breath control.

Pranayama should only be practiced when the body, nervous system and lungs have been strengthened through a regular asana (yoga poses) practice.

Practice of breath control leads to a calm mind, it soothes the nervous system and generates energy.
